Artist Anna B. Cordes
“Ocean's Bounty”
Born in Charlotte, NC in 1976, I was and still am inspired
by my father’s artistic abilities and love for nature. For
as far back as I can remember, I always had art materials
and was encouraged to draw and paint to my heart’s content.
I spent many hours watching my father create beautiful
watercolor and oil paintings of birds, seashells, and nature
scenes. We spent even more hours digging in the dirt,
raising orphaned birds and appreciating the beauty of
nature. It was this upbringing that has allowed me to pursue
art as a therapeutic hobby, a useful skill and as a way for
me to show my appreciation for nature.
I earned a Bachelors of Science in biology from the
University of NC at Charlotte and worked 3 years for the
National Park Service as a seasonal biologist and educator.
It was a great way to see the USA, having worked in the most
beautiful parts of Michigan, Florida, Utah and California. A
job at Cape Lookout National Seashore landed me in Carteret
County where I met my future husband in 2000 and have been
here ever since.
In 2002, I decided to switch gears and make art more of a
focus in my life. I began work at Arts & Things in Morehead
City where I have been exposed to exciting art materials,
new artistic techniques and many styles of artwork. With new
inspirations, I look forward to any time I can paint and am
thankful I have this outlet for my creativity.
