The Nelsons

Southern Gospel Music

The Group was formed in 1972 after the conversion of Clinton Nelson out of a Rock ‘n Roll band which was organized in the mid 60’s. Although this band was very successful with the signing of a major recording label out of New York yet God had other plans in store.

The original Nelsons consisted of Clinton and Joy Nelson along with mom Nelson Reva Pearl. These three traveled extensively doing evangelistic work throughout the eastern half of the US.

After a few years Mom Nelson went home to be with the Lord and Derek Guthrie, Clinton’s nephew joined the group as baritone singer. Today he is one of the finest male vocalists anywhere. Keith Moore, Jr. a long time friend and native of Harkers Island was with the group from 1990-2009. We appreciate his contribution to The Nelsons for this long period of time.

Cathy Cain, a powerful female singer joined the group in 2010. Cathy has been a lifelong acquaintance of The Nelsons and now holds an integral position in this vocal group. She has dedicated her talents to the Lord Jesus Christ. We are so happy to have her in the group.

The Nelsons are original in every sense of the word. Much of the material they sing is written by Clinton Nelson. Their singing style is basically southern in nature with a progressive flare. Their close family harmony and spirit and burden for lost souls are what this group is all about. Their goal is to share the gospel message of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. This is what brings pleasure to their hearts.

Clinton is pastor of the Free Grace Wesleyan Church on Harkers Island, NC. This is the church he grew up in and loves to this day.

Touch of Grace is a duet from Harkers Island, NC featuring Brittany Godwin and Hannah Gillikin.  They have been singing Contemporary and Southern Gospel music together since age 5.  Now, 15, they have had numerous opportunities to sing in a variety of venues.  Winners of the 2010 Annual Benson Gospel Singing Junior Division, they have also opened up for such nationally known groups as The McKameys and the Singing Echoes.  They have appeared on the Channel 12, WCTI Cystic Fibrosis Telethon; Faith Walk TV with Bob Lowery and Gary Dean; have appeared at  The Lighthouse Music Convention Center in Raleigh and have had several songs played on 97.9 “The Bear” radio station.  As their voices have matured and their experience and love for God has deepened, their singing has taken on new depth and feeling.  Their music spans the range from old gospel favorites such as “I Saw the Light” to contemporary selections such as “Walk on the Water” by Britt Nicole and “Heal the Wound” by Point of Grace.  They are passionate about their singing and their love for God.  They strive to bring hope and joy through their ministry of song.  www.touchofgrace2.com
