North Carolina Seafood Festival Announces Winners from the 25th Annual Festival

Officials for the North Carolina Seafood Festival, presented by U.S. Cellular, announced today several winners from this year’s memorable event. The winner in the People’s Choice Carolina Crab Cake Competition was Keith Rhodes of Catch Restaurant in Wilmington, North Carolina. The People’s Choice Carolina Crab Cake Competition was a new addition to the Cooking with the Chef’s exhibit and was sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, Seafood Division, Texas Pete, T.W. Garner and the North Carolina Seafood Festival. The crab meat was provided by Carteret Catch. Other chefs that participated in the competition were the 42nd Street Oyster Bar Chef David Greenwell, who was a runner up and Picatta’s Chef, Kelly Murphy, and Circa 81 of Morehead City’s Chef Clarke Merrill.

Additionally, the Little Miss SasSea and Prince Neptune pageant was held on Sunday, October 2nd and the winners of that pageant were Alexia Stip of Beaufort and Sebastian Mehrmann of Newport.Finally, the North Carolina Seafood Festival was the recipient of two awards from the IFEA, Silver Medal for the Chefs Tent –Best Educational Event and the Bronze Medal for BEST Billboard. The IFEA is the International Festivals & Events Association and recently had their national convention and awards ceremony in Texas.

The North Carolina Seafood Festival, now in its 25 year, is a not-for-profit organization in Carteret County with a five point mission statement with one of the goals being that of helping others recognize the importance of seafood and the commercial fishing industry in eastern North Carolina.
